As an art student I recall first seeing Duchamp's readymades and being inspired (and amused) by the way he questioned the idea of what is art? He suggested that simply choosing the object (or objects) and repositioning or joining, titling and signing it, the found object became art. I love the idea that it raises the challenging question, why isn't it art? He believed that that in a 'Duchampian' world anyone can become Duchamp and anyone can create because everybody has ideas. Bloody good idea that.
